All Mini Sport engines and kits are prepared and built to exacting standards in our own workshops. They all comprise of only the best quality components, including a specially designed and developed Mini Sport modified performance cylinder head, ideally matched to suit your particular application. Choosing a Mini Sport engine will totally transform any Mini. Whether used for fast road, race or rally, we offer all levels of performance to suit your needs.
Big Bore Engine & Engine Kit Specifications for 1293cc, 1400cc & 1430cc
All kits are supplied in component form and include top of the range carefully selected and matched components. Listed below is a full specification of the work carried out on a 1293cc Stage 2 engine, with information on the different processes and parts used in the 1400cc & 1430cc engines including Stage 2, 3 & 4.
1275cc Cylinder Block
Carefully selected and high pressure chemically cleaned. Overbored & cross-hatch honed to 1293cc. Refaced. New cam bearings, core plugs and oil gallery plugs fitted. Painted & inspected. 1400cc & 1430cc overbored and cross hatched honed to 73.5mm (1380cc)
Ancillaries
New rocker shaft, timing chain & tensioner, oil pressure release valve and spring. New alloy rocker cover and spin on filter head with filter (supplied on built engine).
Vernier timing gear and chain set supplied where applicable.
Conversion parts
These extra parts will be needed to successfully convert from either a 850/998/1098cc engine to a 1293cc engine conversion.
1275 reconditioned primary gear & 1 set 1275 reconditioned pushrods
1275cc Crankshaft
Carefully selected, crack tested and high pressure chemically cleaned. Reground and journals polished according to application. Dynamically balanced. (Stage 3 & 4 crankshafts are nitrocarburised heat treated)
1430cc restroked, reground to 84mm and nitrocarburised heat treated.
Pistons
Top quality AE pistons. Individually balanced and fitted to con-rods. 1400cc & 1430cc use Powermax 73.5 mm pistons Camshaft and Followers 1293cc uses Mini Sport Performance CA2 camshaft, 1400cc uses Mini Sport performance CA4 camshaft, 1430cc uses Kent 286 camshaft. All use new heavy duty followers.
Shell Bearings
Top quality AE shell bearings and thrust washers. Glacier for the 1293cc and 1400cc Stage 2 Fast Road engines. Vandervell for the Stage 3, 4 & 5 engines including 1430. 1275cc Con-Rods Carefully matched set. Fully reconditioned and crack tested with new big end nuts and bolts where applicable. Sizes and alignment checked. Individually balanced. 1430cc uses reconditioned 1275 Cooper S conrods.
Mini Sport 1275 Performance Cylinder Head
Stage 2 head for 1293 & 1400 Stage 2 engines.
Stage 3 head for 1293, 1400 & 1430 Stage 3 engines.
Stage 4 head for 1293, 1400 & 1430 Stage 4 engines.
Fully built performance engine
When a Mini Sport performance engine is built, our technicians assemble the engine using all the above components (depending upon specification) along with years of experience. To give the perfect finished product, the following additional parts are included: new alloy rocker cover, new water pump, reconditioned timing covers and new oil filter.
Balancing
Crankshaft and flywheel assembly Dynamically Balanced. Con-rods and Pistons balanced individually.
Oil Pump
New high capacity type where applicable.
Flywheel
Fully balanced and lightened. (except A+)
Gaskets
Complete gasket set for assembly.
Fully built performance engine & gearbox unit
The ultimate unit giving you power, performance & reliability! This is the perfect choice to be certain that you have full confidence in the performance and reliability of your conversion. Often, when the decision is made to fit a performance engine it is found that the gearbox is also in a very poor state and not advisable to be used. With this in mind, we produce a full range of performance engine units completely built up including a remanufactured gearbox and performance clutch assembly.
